This is a triptych that was created through the manipulation of colors and pixels from a video of a candle flickering.

A candle flickered. The flicker was recorded. Edited via DaVinci Resolve, the video sequence of the candle flicker was layered into 8 video channels, with each channel having a modified version of the sequence included. The first video layer remains at a Normal blending mode with 100% opacity. The opacity was decreased for each layer, with the odd-numbered layers blended in Difference mode and the even-numbered layers blended in Screen mode. As each layer was added, the video would be rotated 90 degrees for one layer, and then it was flipped either horizontally or vertically to produce the kaleidoscopic effect. The kaleidoscopic effect was then replicated three more with slightly different blending modes such as Overlay, Screen, and Lighten.
